MEET THE COACH
Born and raised in Ewa Beach, Hawaii, Coach Ray was a multi-sport athlete in his youth and has always been passionate about athletics, fitness, and performance training. Today, he combines that lifelong passion with certifications specializing in speed, agility, and quickness (SAQ) training along with licenses through US Soccer. Coach Ray also brings several years of working with youth athletes through club soccer across every stage of youth development from 4v4 through 11v11.
why did you create athlete lab?
When I began coaching youth soccer, I noticed something that kept showing up week after week. So many kids genuinely loved the game, but their athleticism often held them back from fully enjoying it. They were expected to run, defend, change direction, and control the ball before they had developed the movement skills to confidently control their own bodies.
I realized this wasn't just a soccer problem—it was an athletic development problem. One that exists across many youth sports.
As I began incorporating speed, agility, coordination, and bodyweight training into practices, I watched those same athletes transform. They became quicker, moved with more confidence, and performed better on the field. Their movement improved first, then their sport improved. Most importantly, they started believing in themselves.
Seeing that transformation happen time and time again inspired me to create Athlete Lab Hawaii.
Athletics have always been a major part of my life, and I continue to train today because I believe athleticism is something worth developing at every age. Through Athlete Lab Hawaii, my goal is to provide young athletes with the training they need to unlock their potential, enjoy the sports they love, and build confidence that extends far beyond their sport.
